The First Noel
Both of the words Noël and Advent are historically rooted around reflection, preparation, and celebration. Noël with both Latin and French origins means “birthday news,” and Advent means “coming” in Latin. The popular carol we sing, The First Noël was written to celebrate the good news of Christ’s birth. And for hundreds of years, Advent has been observed as a reflective time of anticipation leading up to Christmas, with our hearts and minds focused on the ultimate gift that is found in Jesus Christ.
Gather your family at home, and join us online for 15-20 minutes of encouragement, as we celebrate the promises of the Advent season each week on Wednesday evenings, 7pm on December 2, 9, 16, and 23. We’ll explore what the “coming birthday news” of our Savior and the fulfillment of God’s promises means to us today, all from the perspective of key biblical witnesses through worship, scripture reflection, and teaching.
