Elective: Galatians
Equipping the Church
Learn to grow in your faith and deepen your relationship with God as we study the book of Galatians. Large group teaching will be a thematic study and in-depth look at Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia (modern-day Turkey) followed by small group discussion. We’ll discover how to live in the Spirit while understanding the difference in being saved by grace not works.
Session 1
Presenter: Todd Gerst
In the opening session of our study of Galatians, we’re looking at the first 10 verses of chapter one. In this passage we discover that the gospel of grace is the basis for our salvation – a salvation that is by faith alone in Christ alone.
Session 2
Presenter: Todd Gerst
In session 2, we continued discussing the importance of understanding the Gospel and grace as we looked at Galatians 2:11-21. One of the struggles of the early church was that the Jewish believers attempted to make new believers follow the Law – including circumcision. Today we can be guilty of adding various elements of legalism to the Gospel as well. But we have to remember, Jesus + nothing = the Gospel.
Session 3
Presenter: Todd Gerst
In session 3, we unpacked the purpose of the Law as we looked at Galatians 3:10-25. We discussed how it was impossible to keep the Law and how it shows us our need for a Savior. We know, because of Christ, we now live under the law of grace rather than the Law of Moses. We also understand the difference between faith and obedience and how we are called to respond to God in faith.
Session 4
Presenter: Ryan Langeland
In session 4, we looked at Galatians 3:26-4:31. In studying this passage we highlighted how we’re free children of God rather than slaves and children of law. We also talked about the equality we have in Christ.
