Weekly reading: John 11-15; Psalm 96-97
Passages referenced: JOHN 14:26-27
“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” – John 14:26-27
In verse 26, we are told that we have the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us remember God’s Word.
And look again at what Jesus tells us in verse 27: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
We live in a chaotic world for sure. But is this really new? Think of 911, the financial recession, etc.
We have the peace Jesus gives through the Holy Spirit for our hearts and minds.
If we feel anxious, afraid, confused, or angry about everything happening, we can call out to Jesus, who hears our cries. And if we will receive it, His peace will guard our hearts and minds.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
If anxiety is something you struggle with, I’d like to recommend the 6-day YouVersion devotional From Anxiety to Peace. YouVersion explains that “there will not be a quick formula that guarantees 100% peace nor will everything related to anxiety be addressed. However, the principles contained in this Plan offer pathways toward victory when they are lived out. You’re invited to begin this journey from anxiety to peace.” – Peggy Underwood
