Weekly reading: Galatians 1; Exodus 1-4; Psalm 99-100
Passages referenced: psalm 100:5
This week we launched the third year of our churchwide Bible reading plan.
But before we get into this new year, let’s take a minute and look back. Over the past two years:
- We’ve read 624 chapters from 43 books.
- We’ve read all the New Testament books at least once, six Old Testament books (Genesis, Judges, Ruth, Esther, Proverbs, Jonah), and almost 100 Psalms.
- By spending about 5 minutes a day reading, we’ve committed 3,120 minutes (or 52 hours) of our lives to reading God’s Word.
Take a minute to celebrate that. We’ve spent a lot of time in God’s Word the last two years.
For our third year, we’ve got some new things planned. We’re going to be exploring more of the Old Testament. In this first quarter, we’re reading through Exodus, and we’ll spend a few weeks looking at Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
As the year goes on, we’ll continue to read some New Testament books (like Matthew, Luke, Romans, Hebrews, and various epistles), and we’ll highlight the rest of the Old Testament books as well, weeks at a time.
From our reading this week, we’re reminded that “…the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” (Psalm 100:5) When we spend time in God’s Word, we see the truth of that verse time and time again. So, as you join us in our third year of reading the Bible together, be on the lookout for reminders of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.
One last note to kick off this new year, each time we start reading a new book, you’ll find links to videos from The Bible Project. They produce some really great overview videos that provide background information and context that walk through each book’s sections and themes. They can be really helpful for those who appreciate some visuals while learning.
Here are the three videos that you could consider checking out this week:
