A group from WCC sees missions in a new light after attending Wayumi Retreat in Jersey Shore, Pa., Sept. 16 to 18. Members of the group, who ranged in age from 6 to 65, learned how God’s story is about reaching all people everywhere, what it takes to share the gospel with people who have no access to it, and why everyone needs to hear the gospel taught in a language they can easily understand. Through real-life stories, fascinating teaching and interactive sessions, the group discovered God’s purpose for mankind and how He is working through ordinary people to make His intention reality.
“My husband and I loved our time at Wayumi!” said Andrea Payton, a WCC participant who attended with her husband, Kenn Baker. “It was a great opportunity to better understand what WCC’s mission partners experience in the field and just how important their work is in spreading the gospel.”
“I also learned that everyone is either a ‘goer’ or a ‘sender,’” Andrea added. “The goers are the ones who are called to leave their communities—usually to go to a different country and culture—to share the gospel. Senders are the ones who provide encouragement and support to the missionaries and regularly pray for them from home. I am a sender. It was truly eye opening to learn about the difference between the two and that I can play a critical role in spreading the Word without ever leaving home.”
