For the 14th year in a row, Sonlight is partnering with 2nd Mile Missions to provide academic scholarships for students in the Dominican Republic who attend the organization’s Education Center and Hope Academy. From Feb. 4 to May 26, Sonlight hopes to raise $2,160 to cover the cost of tuition for four students for the 2024–2025 school year during its DR Offering Project. A single scholarship is $540. Sonlight sponsors the same students each year until they graduate.

“Sonlight’s offering projects are designed to allow kids to love other kids in the name of Jesus,” said Ruth Romeo, PreK/K program leader. “The Dominican Republic Offering Project allows children in Sonlight to help send four students in the DR to school in hopes of disrupting the cycle of poverty in the DR through education. We are extremely pleased that the children in 2nd Mile Missions’ schools regularly hear the Gospel message and know how they can be Forever Friends with Jesus.”

Throughout the four-month campaign, Sonlight children and their families will have multiple opportunities to donate to the scholarship fund of each child in fun ways, including phases that include the filling of PLINKO boards and individual offering boxes. Each of Sonlight’s four classrooms sponsors a student, so a friendly competition will ensue, and the classroom that raises the most money will be treated to a classroom party.

Families interested in personally sponsoring a child for the full $540 tuition can visit 2ndmilemissions.org to learn more. Families who fully sponsor can also take part in a 2nd Mile Missions awareness trip to the DR, a visit that provides a hands-on missions experience and a chance to meet their sponsored child.
