After breaking ground more than a year ago, two new Habitat for Humanity homes were dedicated in Claypool, Ind., on March 28. More than 60 people, comprised of Habitat board members and staff and volunteers, celebrated with Courtney and Tracy — who are both single moms — and their friends and family. A group of WCC volunteers, including Helping Hands volunteers who helped build the homes and two couples who mentored and ministered to the moms throughout the year, attended the dedication.

Construction began in March 2023 on land donated by the town of Claypool. It was the first time two Habit houses, which both have three bedrooms and one bathroom, were built simultaneously.

“These homes represent months of hard work and the generous support of community members and businesses,” said Ben Logan, executive director, Habitat for Humanity and a WCC attendee. “These homes represent exciting changes for these moms, and memories are waiting to be made.

“Special thanks to WCC, which provided not only financial support for these two homes, but also poured volunteer talent into building the homes and walking with the families in their homeownership journeys,” Ben added. “At the end of the dedication, WCC volunteers handed Bibles to each parent and child as their first housewarming gifts. These single moms and their children will never forget this day.”

“We were honored to celebrate God’s faithfulness in this endeavor,” said Jeff Pfeifer, pastor of care ministries at WCC. “What a blessing it was for us as Christ’s body to be able to not only help with the construction side of the project, but to actually invest in the moms and encourage them as the love of Jesus was shared.”
