In our everyday lives, it is easy to make decisions and prioritize our time based on our current wants and needs. But occasionally, we are invited (and sometimes forced) to stop and consider how what we are doing today and how we prioritize our energy now will impact the future. That’s why we invite you to carefully check out a current and urgent need with long-term impact right here in our community.

Our local schools have been dramatically impacted by COVID-19 and the resulting changes to our world. Although we are beyond grateful to see schools in session in person and thousands of students safe and cared for in these buildings, there remains huge needs. Those needs include having caring, invested adults willing to pour into students, and helping the schools continue to provide that caring environment through basic custodial, set-up, and clean-up roles.

Despite the initial hold on outside volunteers, Warsaw Community Schools are now beyond that point and allowing approved volunteers to jump in to help in a wide variety of ways. The teachers and staff members that work one-on-on with students and specifically within special education need assistance investing in these students. You do not need to have a calling or even experience with education to come in and spend some time with students reading, listening, playing, and guiding. Or, if your schedule or wiring doesn’t allow you to work directly with students, consider volunteering with some cleaning and set-up needs during this time of fewer employees. You have the opportunity right now to invest in the future of a student and ultimately the community through a few short hours a week of volunteering.

Literally every school in our local communities need volunteer help. Please see this list of the schools, the contact person, and their highest priority needs identified. Teachers and administrators are willing to get you plugged into a spot that you are comfortable with and fits your schedule. Please prayerfully consider reaching out to one of our schools and making an investment now that could ultimately have an eternal impact. Additionally, if you’re not in the Warsaw Community School District, check with your area schools – more than likely, they can use your help as well.

NOTE: There are many jobs available currently in our school system. If you are looking for employment that will have a direct impact on the future of our community, consider applying for a job here. If you are not interested in a full time or even part time position, but would be interested in earning some money as you get to know local students, consider applying to become a substitute teacher.
