A total of 84 fifth and sixth graders, along with 27 full-time staff members and dozens of volunteers who served as counselors, encouragers, interns, teachers, tech crew members and worship leaders spent the week of July 24 at Camp with an Impact, which took place at Camp Adventure in Pierceton, Ind.

Additional volunteers also helped with promotion, registration and preparing the camp.

Camp with an Impact provides an environment where students can worship, learn, develop relationships and grow deeper in their relationship with Christ in a camp-like setting.

“The camp environment is the most effective place for facilitating students to become disciples of Christ,” said Ryan Langeland, Pastor of Children and Student Ministries at WCC. “We saw students commit to Christ for the first time this week, as well as commit to serving in local churches as a part of their efforts to develop as mature disciples.”

Despite some scorching temperatures and a thunderstorm, campers and staff took what could be considered lemons and made delicious lemonade.

“I loved how we turned ominous and hot weather into great experiences this summer,” Ryan continued. “We took a stormy night and had an amazing talent show. And on the hottest days, we made sure everyone got in the water to cool off in the afternoons. No one had worried or despondent attitudes because of the constant schedule changes. We made adjustments to difficult circumstances and made the experience at least as good, if not better, than what was originally planned.”

“The Lord was praised in amazing worship sessions,” Ryan added. “There is nothing like camp worship and learning. It is authentic and enthusiastic and leads to continuing relationships with the Lord and each other. We had different teachers during each session, which allowed us to hear many perspectives on how we continue to live within God’s story, a meta narrative begun in the Bible. All campers were led to view their lives within the faithful and amazing work of Jesus Christ.”

What some campers had to say about CWAI:

  • “I get to be part of HIS STORY by taking God’s love and sharing it with my brothers.”
  • “Because of God’s great love for me, I get to be part of HIS STORY by showing His love through kindness, by worshipping Him and telling others His story.”
  • “I accepted Jesus into my life for the first time this week. I had heard the story before, but my counselor made it important to me.”
