Meet WCC’s newest community outreach partner! Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an international, volunteer-driven, nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering handmade beds to children in need. SHP’s mission is to tackle childhood bedlessness, which is estimated to affect nearly 10 million children in the U.S. — 200,000 in Indiana. Kosciusko County, the newest SHP chapter, is now one of more than 300 chapters in 44 states and four countries.
Becky Kiphart, WCC’s Early Childhood Leader, along with her husband Rory and brother Michael Webb, saw a need in the community for children’s beds and together formed the SHP Kosciusko County chapter.
“SHP’s mission statement is No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town,” said Becky, “and that is the goal that everyone is invited to help us meet. There truly is a way for everyone to get involved, and no experience or skills are required. Volunteering on Build Days is a great opportunity for individuals, families, growth groups and other community groups to build camaraderie and have fun while changing a child’s life. Our goal is to host one Build Day a month and build at least 20 beds at each event.
“Everyone can also help by donating funds or new twin-size bedding,” Becky continued. “Each SHP bed costs $250, which includes the mattress, pillow and bedding. All donations stay in Kosciusko County and are used to make a difference for children in our county.”
